Color in a vintage setting

Every colored stone in this collection is a simulated gemstone: a man-made stone that gives the look of the natural one, and is named as such on each page. At its center is a family of vintage-style 14K gold gemstone rings in two cuts — an oval, and a pear-cut flanked by cubic zirconia side stones — each offered in simulated ruby, simulated sapphire, simulated emerald and simulated citrine, or in clear cubic zirconia. Around them sit a simulated turquoise ring with a halo and twisted rope band, a bohemian evil eye ring with a simulated sapphire center, colorful multi-stone bands, and simulated ruby stud earrings with baguette accents.

Choosing a stone color

Many people begin with a birth month: red for July, green for May, blue for September, golden yellow for November. Others simply choose the color they wear most. Deep red and blue stand out strongly against yellow gold, while the warm tone of simulated citrine blends into it for a softer, tonal effect. An oval cut reads classic and lengthens the finger; the pear cut is a little more dressed. As with any stone-set gemstone ring, take it off for heavy work and clean it with mild soap and a soft brush.
